After nine years as the full-time art director for The Walrus, Brian Morgan is leaving us to become a freelance contractor—art director emeritus, designer, master of fonts, and so much more. He will be based out of his studio in Montreal. Although Brian will no longer be physically present at The Walrus (and will no longer have to make the weekly commute!), he will continue to work on some projects with The Walrus as a freelancer and consultant.
We want to thank Brian for the enormous contribution he has made to The Walrus magazine, thewalrus.ca, and the Walrus Foundation as a whole over the past nine years. His style, grace, talent, deep knowledge, creative passion, brilliance, and dedication brought so much to the art department and helped The Walrus become what it is today.
As of our October 2017 issue, Brian Morgan will be honoured in our masthead as Art Director Emeritus.
Deputy art director Paul Kim and senior designer Meredith Holigroski will continue in their existing roles. Going forward, the art department will be overseen by current senior editor Jessica Johnson, who will be moving into the new position of creative director at the Walrus Foundation.
After July 31, Brian can be reached at frenchfold@me.com.
