Become a Major Gift Donor

The Walrus believes that a healthy society relies on informed citizens. Philanthropists are part of an integral community that sustains our ability to produce highly trusted, independent journalism, provoking conversations in every part of the country on the most complex issues of our time.

As a registered charitable organization, we seek to create philanthropic opportunities that best reflect our supporters’ unique vision for long-term impact. The Walrus invites you to explore the following opportunities for your charitable investment.

Canada’s Creators Fund

Canada’s Creators Fund helps us publish Canada’s best writing and illustrative artwork on the most important topics of our time. By supporting Canada’s Creators Fund at The Walrus, you will elevate the work of Canadian writers and creators on a world-class platform.

The Walrus Fellowship Program

The Walrus Fellowship Program is one of the few remaining programs in Canada that provides emerging journalists with paid, full-time work, rigorous training, and the specialized mentorship necessary to thrive as outstanding professionals in the journalism sector. This program is critical to our work and to the future of the industry at large.

Optimistic Canadians

The Optimistic Canadians program is a community of individuals who are curious about and engaged in the world we live in. Optimistic Canadians make significant, multi-year pledges to The Walrus and their support is essential to enabling us to be leaders in independent, fact-based journalism and helping us plan on a longer horizon in an environment designed for success rather than survival.

Make a Gift of Securities

Making a gift of publicly traded securities such as shares, stocks, and bonds is a simple way to support The Walrus. It’s as easy as filling out a form and requesting your broker to transfer your gift electronically. Please be sure to inform our development office of your incoming gift so that it is processed in a timely way.

The Walrus welcomes financial contributions at any level directed toward the work that we do best: producing trustworthy journalism that generates new thinking and conversations on the most important issues of our time.
